We’re finally 100% wireless in 40 buildings across the 120 acres of main campus! Resident students will return in January to find fast wireless Internet in every room in all seven current residence halls. The Division of Information Technology networking team worked with Auxiliary Services at the end of the semester to complete the campus wireless expansion to include every residence hall room and common area across all seven buildings.
With the Student Government Association’s support and shared funding from Student Technology Fees and Auxiliary Services, cialis we were able to deliver the new 5GHz Aerohive wireless network to every last room on campus. Within the next semester, we’ll also be doubling the speed of the campus networks thanks to a new connection from Windstream scheduled to arrive the last week of January, and a new fiber link from the North Georgia Network will reach campus by the end of February.
When we add the redundant North Georgia Network fiber connections later in the semester, we’ll increase our bandwidth by an additional 100%. We’ll have one of the fastest university connections in the state, with high-speed wireless throughout every building. It’s an exciting time to be at North Georgia! Thanks to the SGA and Auxiliary Services teams for their help in making a 100% wireless North Georgia a reality.
Over the past five years, the North Georgia wireless network has grown from five small wireless “hot spots” to “ubiquitous wireless” throughout more than 40 buildings on campus and most outdoor sitting areas. The wireless network even extends to the Mike Cottrell School of Business’ MBA Center in Cumming. Thanks to a connection from the North Georgia Network fiber project between the Dahlonega main campus and the new University Center GA 400 site in Cumming, we’ll have the same high-speed wireless no matter where a student may go. Gaillard Hall is currently undergoing renovation, but when it reopens in August, it will be outfitted with the new wireless for all rooms, as well.
It’s a great time to be at North Georgia!
